I've been all talk throughout the blog. How do these random charts and graphs that I've posted even correlate to us as a society? More importantly, why should we care and look to stop it? Well, these kinds of overly sexualized characters contribute to gender stereotyping which is not healthy for a growing girl's mindset. The more the younger generation plays these kinds of games where these ideas are pushed upon them, the more dangerous the girl's mindset becomes. As adolescents, females already tend to struggle with looks and acceptance, but video games are the future. We have the tools to change this and help young girls with accepting themselves, but not the way we are going about it now. In order move forward, I believe that not just Riot, but other video game companies as well, should look to change up their characters a little and make them a bit more relatable. While this will take away from the male gaze and fanservice, this provides a more stable environment for young girls to grow up in.
The future begins now; we need to create a society that young girls feel safe in, not one full of expecting glances, wondering when the young girls will fill into their physical role of the sexualized female body.
